In the old Roman empire criminals, disobedient slaves, political and ideological opponents were tortured to death in local arenas. Crucifixion, burning with red-hot iron bars, impaling (pussy or asshole), quartering, peeling off the whole skin, etc. The audience especially appreciated the torture of women.
